Animal Phenology

Beginning in 2010, we will invite participants to submit observations online for many species of animals, including yellow-bellied marmots, common loons, northern painted turtles, wood frogs, coho salmon and bumblebees.

We have developed our initial list of 58 species (pdf) to watch and are putting the final touches on our monitoring protocols. Over 100 experts, including researchers, managers, and educators, have reviewed our monitoring program throughout its development. We are also actively collaborating with many existing monitoring programs, such as the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Frogwatch USA, and Journey North.

Our animal phenology program is made possible through partnerships with The Wildlife Society, U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

We look forward to your participation!
